DESCRIPTION:What is ANZAC Day?\nANZAC Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in wars\, conflicts\, and peacekeeping operations. It is observed annually on April 25th\, the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) troops at Gallipoli in 1915 during World War I. \nWhen and where is the ANZAC Day service in Darwin being held?\nThe ANZAC Day service in Darwin will be held at the Cenotaph on the Esplanade. The service will commence at 6.00am sharp\, on April 25th. \nIs the ANZAC Day service open to the public?\nYes\, the ANZAC Day service is open to the public. All members of the community are welcome to attend and pay their respects. \nWhat should I bring to the service?\nWe recommend bringing a hat\, sunscreen\, and water as the weather can be warm in Darwin at this time of year. Additionally\, you may wish to bring a small Australian flag or a poppy to lay at the Cenotaph. \nIs there seating available at the service?\nLimited seating will be available at the service. However\, we encourage attendees to bring folding chairs or picnic blankets for their comfort. \nIs the ANZAC Day service suitable for children?\nYes\, the ANZAC Day service is suitable for children. It is a solemn occasion\, and parents are encouraged to explain the significance of the day to their children beforehand. Please ensure children are supervised throughout the service. \nWill there be facilities available?\nYes\, there will be portable toilets available nearby. Please note that the area around the Cenotaph may be crowded\, so we advise using the facilities before the service begins. \nAccess for Elderly or Disabled:\nWe are committed to ensuring that the ANZAC Day service is accessible to all members of the community\, including elderly and disabled individuals. There will be designated areas near the Cenotaph on the Esplanade reserved for those requiring special assistance. Volunteers will be available to assist with seating and access to facilities. \nDrop-Off Permits:\nDrop-off permits for individuals with special mobility needs can be obtained from the City of Darwin. These permits will allow for convenient drop-off and pick-up points near the Cenotaph on the Esplanade. To obtain a drop-off permit\, please contact the City of Darwin at [insert contact information here] or visit their website for more details.\nEnsuring accessibility for all attendees is a priority\, and we appreciate your cooperation in making ANZAC Day commemorations inclusive and accessible. If you have any specific accessibility requirements or questions\, please feel free to reach out to us. We are here to assist you. \nIs there parking available?\nLimited street parking is available around the Esplanade. We encourage attendees to use public transportation or carpool where possible. Please plan your parking arrangements in advance. \nCan I lay a wreath or tribute at the Cenotaph during the service?\nYes\, wreaths and tributes are welcome. If you would like to lay a wreath or tribute on behalf of an organisation\, please notify one of the event organisers prior to the service. Personal tributes may be laid at the conclusion of the service. \nWill there be any road closures or traffic disruptions?\nYes\, there may be road closures and traffic disruptions in the vicinity of the Cenotaph on the Esplanade. Please plan your travel accordingly and allow extra time to reach the service. A map will be available on the City of Darwin website. \nAdditional Events Following the ANZAC Day Service: \nChurch Service at St Mary’s Cathedral:\nFollowing the ANZAC Day service at the Cenotaph\, there will be a church service at St Mary’s Cathedral located in Smith Street. The service will commence at 8:30 AM. All are welcome to attend this solemn gathering for further reflection and commemoration. \nStreet March:\nFollowing the church service\, there will be a street march commencing at 9:00 AM. The muster point for participants is the corner of Knuckey Street and the Esplanade. Those who wish to participate in the march are encouraged to assemble at this location promptly. \nFlyover of Aircraft:\nAt 9:30 AM\, there will also be a flyover of aircraft as part of the ANZAC Day commemorations. This aerial tribute will serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by service personnel. Spectators are encouraged to find a suitable viewing spot along the march route or near the Esplanade to witness this display.\nThese additional events provide further opportunities for remembrance and reflection on the significance of ANZAC Day. We invite all attendees to participate in these activities as we honour and remember those who have served our nation.
